Vicolo Pietralata No 4-6 is the newly-completed restoration of an ancient ruin, together with extensive garden, in the historical mountaintop town of Veroli, about 60 miles south of Rome
Situated near the town’s medieval gated entrance of Santa Croce, the property has a southerly aspect, affording panoramic views 20 miles across the Sacco Valley towards the Lepini Mountains and the stunning skyline towards Naples.
Because of its position, the property enjoys direct sunshine from dawn until dusk. All rooms have windows sharing the spectacular outlook.
The renovation has been carried out according to local conservation regulations, using original materials and traditional design methods, to provide three double bedrooms. A double bed-settee in the soggiorno offers a further option.
The modern fitted kitchen includes a built-in fridge with freezer, electric oven with gas ring and ample storage space. The adjoining utility room houses a washing machine.
All fittings, furnishings and wall decorations are of an optimum standard, and have been arranged to convey a sense of taste and comfort in a typical Italianate environment. Flooring throughout is of natural terracotta tiling.
A patio allows meals to be taken al fresco and the 1,000 square-metre garden, which is terraced with matching indigenous stone, contains barbecue equipment and a gazebo with a hand-painted table of lavic stone. Garden chairs, tables and sun-loungers are provided. The garden also has an independent gate.
Access to the property is via narrow, cobbled streets with no vehicle usage within the immediate vicinity. Designated parking is provided on the outer side of the Santa Croce gate entrance, a couple of minutes’ walk away. Near this parking area, on the road leading into the town centre, is a bar, shops, bank and a restaurant specialising in pizzas and typical local dishes of the Ciociarian region. The town’s central piazza, with its basilica and treasured religious artefacts, is a walk of about 10 minutes from the house.
